Marcel Wave Hairstyle
The Marcel wave is named after Francois Marcel, the 19th century French hairdresser who invented the process in 1872. Marcel waves added style to the plain bobs of the roaring twenties.
Although the popular process had been around for decades it experienced renewed popularity in the 1920’s when electric curling irons made their debut. Previous irons were heavy tongs that were heated over a gas burner and there were numerous hazards involved in their use. The electric curling irons overcame these problems, hence the revival in the fortunes of the Marcel wave.
Modern style Marcel wave electric curling irons are available for purchase on eBay and many other stores.
